Located along the Tennessee River and within the Appalachian Mountains, this Tennessee city is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Chattanooga had long been home for Native Americans and its name comes from the Muskogean word for rock. Cherokee tribes fought European settlement in the area during the late 1700s, but were eventually forced to move West.
