Located on New York's famed Wall Street, the original structure built in 1700 was the site of New York's first City Hall, the first meeting of the United States Congress and President George Washington's first inauguration in 1789. Federal Hall's current building constructed to resemble a Greek Parthenon opened in 1842 as a federal Customs House. Federal Hall National Memorial, which has a bronze George Washington statue by John Quincy Adams Ward on the steps, offers exhibits and presentations on U.S. Congress, Washington and New York. It is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and has appeared twice on American postage stamps. Show All
