The world headquarters of General Motors are located in the "Motor City" of Detroit in the Renaissance Center, which is a seven-building complex that GM owns. The Renaissance Center construction project was announced in 1971 by Ford Motor Co. Chairman Henry Ford II. The complex was constructed from 1973-77 with additional buildings completed in 1981. General Motors purchased the Renaissance Center in 1996 for its global headquarters and renovated it for $500 million. More than 5,000 GM employees work in the center in addition 4,000 other employees working for contracted companies. Show All
