The one-time center of the powerful Roman Empire, this important site is encompassed by the remains of ancient government structures including The Roman Colosseum. Roman Forum, which is located between the Capitoline and Palatine hills, was used for religious ceremonies, public meetings, gladiator battles and trials. Other ruins surrounding the forum are the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine, Temple of Julius Caesar, Temple of Saturn, Temple of Venus and Roma, Roman Senate and the Arch of Septimius Severus.
