Union Station in Washington, D.C. was the subject of the largest renovation project ever in the United States with public and private funding of $160 million under a 1981 act by Congress to preserve the landmark as a national treasure. There are now more than 90,000 visitors daily to the station that features more than 100 specialty stores, six restaurants, 35-plus international eateries, a variety of services and the headquarters of Amtrak.
