The impressive aircraft carrier docked at Navy Pier in San Diego was active from 1945-92 with approximately 225,000 sailors serving on the one-time site of the United States Navy TOPGUN fighter school. USS Midway Museum opened in 2004 and now has more than 60 exhibits and nearly 30 aircraft on the "floating city at sea." Visitors can tour the galley, engine room, machine shop, crew sleeping quarters, ship jail and machines shops as well as learn interesting facts from museum guides.
