The peninsula in False Creek across from Downtown Vancouver has been redeveloped into the lively shopping, dining and entertainment complex it is today beginning in the late 1970s from a 37-acre industrial site that was created in 1915. Granville Island has a large farmers market, boutiques, waterfront restaurants, art galleries and studios, theaters, cafes and street performers.
