The famous Southern plantation located in Vaherie, Louisiana along the Mississippi River can be identified by its picturesque path with draping Oak Trees of both sides. Oak Alley Plantation's 25 acres of land was purchased by the "King of Sugar" Valcour Aime to grow sugar on in 1830 and then aquired by Jacques Telesphore Roman after a land trade in 1836. The Greek Revival style mansion designed by Joseph Pilie was built from 1837-39 using slave labor. Plantation tours may view the "Big House," reconstructed slave quarters, a Civil War Encampment, Blacksmith Shop and much more. The U.S. National Historic Landmark has been featured in many movies.
