This beautiful wooded park was designed to provide a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of Madrid. During the Spanish Civil War, the park became a battlefield, with trenches and bunkers still visible at the park's northern end. At its southern end is the Temple of Debod, an authentic ancient Egyptian temple given to the Spanish government as a present.
