The legendary Midtown Manhattan complex contains 19 buildings on 22 acres running from Fifth Avenue to Sixth Avenue with its most famous structures being the GE Building, nicknamed 30 Rock, and Radio City Music Hall. Construction on the massive project of the original 14 Art Deco buildings lasted from 1930-39 with Raymond Hood as the main architect. Rockefeller Center that was named after John D. Rockefeller, Jr. contains many art sculptures on its property including the Gilded Statue of Prometheus, Statue of Atlas, "American Progress" and "Time" murals, and the "News" bas-relief. The U.S. National Historic Landmark is known for its ice-skating rink during the winter, enormous Christmas Tree during the holidays and its Top of the Rock observation decks in the GE Building.
