The charming coastal city located not far from San Francisco in Northern California resembles a picture-perfect Mediterranean community and is a popular destination to visit and live. Sausalito contains more than 400 houseboats and singer Otis Redding wrote his hit "Dock of the Bay" while staying on a Sausalito houseboat in 1967. The city named for the Spanish word for "small willow grove" was first developed by William Richardson in 1838 and was an important site for fishing, transportation and shipbuilding in the past.
