Itinerary

Traverse the beautiful city of Funchal to uncover its rich history and tastes on a scenic and scrumptious Funchal wine and food tour! Led by an expert English-speaking guide, you'll discover the various flavors of Madeira, from its fine wines to its enthralling chocolate treats. Along the way, you'll learn about Funchal's history, architecture, culture, and, of course, food and wine! First up, we'll visit an innovative project where the community works to uphold the traditions of Madeira, its culture and art. Here we'll get to taste the perfect regional delicacies! Next, we'll travel to a Madeiran Chocolate Factory to learn all about how elegant chocolates are made, a trip not to be missed. From here we'll get to enjoy our first glass of wine by sampling Madeira's famous wines from a local wine producer. Afterwards, we'll nibble on Madeira cookies and sweets at a local factory. Plus, we'll learn about the traditional recipes to make these specialty treats. Then, we'll visit a local bar, a favorite amongst the locals, where you can enjoy a black scabbard fillet sandwiches or fresh tuna, anytime of the day. Next, we'll visit Funchal's Farmers Market, home to a profusion of colors and scents beginning, from beautiful flowers to exotic fruits and the large and bustling fish market. Continuing our tour we'll head to a typical Madeiran grocery store, where various spices can be found alongside beans, potatoes and much more. Here it is also mandatory a stop to try the famous Poncha! From here we'll learn a bit about Madeiran home cooking by visiting a local restaurant located in the old town, offering a rich and complete menu of typical and secular Madeira cuisine. Our final stop will be at “Armazém do Mercado,” a modern space recently created by young Madeiran and is filled with good coffee, wine, tea, and music, a perfect ending for this tour.
