As its name suggests, Old Havana is the oldest neighborhood in Havana, having been founded as a port in the Havana Bay for Spanish Galleons. As a result it's many churches and buildings have a neoclassical or baroque architectural style that have earned it recognition as a World Heritage Site. An artistic and cultural center in Havana, the neighborhood hosts five large plazas, San Cristobal Cathedral, the Morro and the Castle of the Royal Army; and the National Capital building as well as various museums, parks, and structures that have been restored.
