This delightful English town in Warwickshire along the River Avon is the birthplace of the great playwright William Shakespeare. Stratford-upon-Avon, often shortened to the name Stratford, was chartered in 1196 and was settled during Medieval times with the town layout in the shape of a royal cross. Nearly five million people visit the town annually - many drawn by its ties to Shakespeare. Popular attractions are Shakespeare's Birthplace, Holy Trinity Church, The Falstaffs Experience, Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Nash's House, Royal Shakespeare Company and Theatres, Chedham's Yard, Bancroft Gardens, Canal Basin, Mary Arden's Farm, Mechanical Art & Design Museum and nearby Anne Hathaway's Cottage.
