This famous Washington, D.C. mansion is the official residence of the United States president and its location was chosen by George Washington back in 1791. The White House was designed by architect James Hoban and contains 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, eight staircases and three elevators. Before U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt officially named it the White House in 1901, it was called "The President's House," "The President's Palace" and "Executive Mansion." Various presidents have had the structure renovated and restored throughout the decades. The White House displays many fine pieces of art including paintings, sculptures and furnishings. Show All
