The largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere is located in Northern Utah and is about 75 miles long, but frequently oscillates. Great Salt Lake is what remains of the prehistoric 20,000-square-mile Lake Bonneville and is sometimes called "America's Dead Sea." The lake contains brine shrimp and its surrounding region is home to many birds and mammals. Antelope Island and Great Salt Lake state parks are situated on the body of water that is surrounded by pristine white sand beaches. Popular spots on the lake are Spiral Jetty, Black Rock, Great Salt Lake Marina, Kennecott Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve, Locomotive Springs and Bridger Bay Beach.
