The second largest Hawaiian island that is approximately 727 square miles is referred to as the "Valley Isle" because of its many valleys between its volcanic mountain formations. Maui has more than 80 beaches and its Haleakala National Park features the island's highest peak at 10,025 feet. Hawaiian legend says the island is named after the son of Polynesian explorer Hawaiʻiloa, who discovered the Hawaiian islands. Popular Maui attractions are Lahaina, Hana, Hana Highway, Iao Valley State Park, Iao Needle, Kaanapali Beach, Wailuku Town and Hasegawa General Store. Waterfalls, mountains, lush rainforests and stunning beaches make Maui a popular vacation spot. Show All
