Standing at the highest point of the fortified town of Mont-Louis, the Mont-Louis Citadel is a shining example of 17th century military architecture. The citadel, protected on three sides by stone walls and on the fourth side by a steep slope down to the River Tet below, was built in response to France's ongoing war with Spain in the late 17th century.
